Call for the Day of Action on November 19, 2022
Stop the killing in Ukraine – armament is not the solution!
Day of action for peace and a good life for all
On February 24, 2022, Russian troops began their invasion of Ukraine. The war of aggression has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, hundreds of thousands of injuries, and millions of refugees. The military conflict, which began back in 2014, has also destroyed countless buildings and public facilities, destroyed food and made it impossible to grow.
In response to the renewed Russian aggression, the German government announced a 100 billion euro rearmament program for the Bundeswehr just days after the attacks began. In the meantime, this has been approved by an amendment to the German constitution. With annual expenditures of 2% of the gross domestic product, Germany would soon have nominally the third largest military budget in the world – after the USA and China.
We reject rearmament and war
We reject this policy! The weapons must be silent: We demand an immediate ceasefire with a withdrawal of the Russian military from Ukraine. Peace negotiations are needed: We demand that the German government actively works towards a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
Wars and armed conflicts – such as Turkey’s attacks on Kurdish territories or Azerbaijan’s on Armenia – which are contrary to international law – cause untold suffering worldwide.
We demand the protection of people fleeing wars, the reception of conscientious objectors and deserters, and the reappraisal of crimes under international law.
The current arms spiral, in which many states of the world, including Germany, are involved, must be stopped for the benefit of all people. Because every euro, dollar or ruble that flows into the military is missing in the fight against global human problems such as the climate crisis, poverty or the pandemic.
The climate crisis continues unabated – in this country, the consequences were clearly felt during the last summer drought. All available resources must therefore be devoted to mitigating climate change and its consequences.
The climate crisis, the Corona virus and the consequences of the war in Ukraine are causing more and more people to fall below the poverty line – the increased prices for food and energy are also making life difficult for people in Germany. None of these problems can be solved by military means.
Become active for a more peaceful world
We want a world in which all people can live freely and safely. We therefore call for non-violent and colorful protests against the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine and the rearmament program on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
For this purpose, protests should be organized at the places where decisions about rearmament and wars are made – for example, in front of government buildings and the offices of the ruling parties. In city centers, in front of the factories of the arms industry and in front of military facilities our anger and indignation against the profiteers and those responsible for the war should become visible and audible.
Join us on November 19th against rearmament and war and for peace and a good life for all!
Who we are
We are an alliance of civil society organizations, who stand up for human rights and are in solidarity with all people who defy war. There is no place for people and groups from the nationalist and anti-democratic spectrum at our protests. We also reject people and groups who are anti-scientific, who attack journalists, as well as people and groups who adhere to conspiracy myths and/or spread racism, anti-Semitism, sexism or other discriminatory messages.
